Coco Chanel’s Top 10 Words of Wisdom for the Modern Gal
Coco Chanel was a French designer and fashion icon who completely revolutionized the way we think about high fashion couture, formal wear for women, and the Nazi invasion of France. A pioneer both in changing the silhouette of women in the early 20th century and in playing both sides of a world war while using genocide as an opportunity for personal and professional advantage, Coco Chanel was unmatched in her ability to be both friends with the British Bulldog Winston Churchill—while he was busy causing a famine in Bengal—and utilizing that friendship to avoid investigation and prosecution for literally being a spy for the Nazis. For all of her efforts, Coco Chanel will always be remembered as a fashion maven and woman of inspiration despite having been, again, a literal spy for the Nazis. At least we’ll always have the uncomplicated childhood delight of Roald Dahl.
